Winda Energy is planning a wind farm in Verkasalo, spanning the municipalities of Alavieska, Kalajoki, and Ylivieska. The project area is 2300 hectares in size and is located in the southern part of Alavieska, southeastern Kalajoki, and western Ylivieska. Alongside the zoning process, an environmental impact assessment (EIA) has been carried out.

The City of Kalajoki, the City of Ylivieska, and the Municipality of Alavieska have approved the partial master plan for the Verkasalo project.
