Renewable energy project developer Winda Energy Oy has been selected as the partner for electricity generation to Nordic Ren-Gas Oy’s first Power-to-gas -facility in Tampere. The long-term power purchase agreement, signed at the end of autumn 2024, enables cost-efficient e-methane production and simultaneously supports new wind power in Finland.

For us at Winda Energy this presents a great opportunity to be part of Europe’s first industrial-scale e-methane production project by delivering renewable energy for the project. We delighted by the trust between our two companies and the co-operation that has enabled on the H2PPA, says Anette Danielsson, Business Development Manager at Winda Energy.

Winda Energy is a Finland-based renewable energy project developer that has been active in the market for more than 10 years. Currently the company has more than 30 wind and solar PV projects across Finland in various stages of project development. Danielsson finds the partnership with Ren-Gas inspiring, as it is an example of the close collaboration between renewable energy actors and industrial players required for the green transition to succeed and to enable further investments into the sector in Finland.

It has been great to develop the H2PPA together with Winda’s team. The H2PPA structure enables purchasing electricity from new wind and solar parks in Finland in a way that fulfils the strict regulatory requirements set by the EU for the production of renewable hydrogen. The H2PPA model is key for securing electricity delivery for the e-methane production facility as well as adding new wind power capacity to the Finnish system. We strongly believe that our good co-operation with Winda Energy will further deepen once we reach final investment decision for the projects, states Matti Rautkivi, Head of Market Development at Ren-Gas.

Ren-Gas is Finland’s leading green hydrogen and e-methane project developer, with projects validated both by the EU as well as the Finnish government as important for the green transition and feasible for execution. The company is known for is industry-leading portfolio, which has been developed since 2021. The construction of the Tampere e-methane project is expected to begin in 2025 with commercial operations starting in 2027.

H2PPA model ensures the suitability of power purchasing for green industry

Winda Energy and Ren-Gas have developed and signed a term sheet for a long-term power purchasing agreement (H2PPA) for the Tampere e-methane project. The signed agreement is for new wind power in Finland, and the contractual structure is aligned with the production of renewable hydrogen and e-methane.

Winda Energy with the support of its main owner BHM Renewables will actively continue the negotiations together with Ren-Gas on the H2PPA, facilitating reaching final investment decision for both projects.
