Winda Energy Accelerates Growth in Energy Storage Market, Building 50 MW Battery Facility in Jämsä
Renewable energy developer Winda Energy Oy continues its growth in energy storage projects.
The company will build an electricity storage facility with a power output of 50 megawatts (MW) and a capacity of 100 megawatt-hours (MWh) in Jämsä, Central Finland. The project is carried out in cooperation with the Czech tech energy company Second Foundation, and it follows the Rautavaara energy storage project announced last summer. Second Foundation’s entry also marks the exit of BHM Renewables, which has supported Winda throughout the project’s development phase.
The battery storage facility in Jämsä will be one of the largest in Finland. It strengthens Winda’s position as one of Finland’s leading drivers of the clean energy transition. The energy storage system enables more efficient balancing of electricity supply and demand and supports the stability of the national transmission grid.
Construction of the battery storage facility is scheduled to begin in early 2026. Once completed, the facility will be able to respond to grid frequency fluctuations within milliseconds and store renewable energy for periods of peak electricity demand.
“The Jämsä project is a natural and strategic next step on our journey toward a more diverse portfolio of energy generation and storage. Since launching the Rautavaara project, we have progressed rapidly, and the new project in Jämsä, with nearly double the capacity, demonstrates our ability to scale our solutions to meet the growing needs of the market,” says Tuomas Hooli, CEO of Winda Energy.
The project will be implemented in line with Winda Energy’s established partnership model, combining international technology expertise with local project development know-how.
